Asking for a gnome

You pick the name, and it goes on the gnome along with the address of this site. I keep a veto on names, mostly to stop anyone putting their brother-in-law’s name on something with a big nose.

You write a line or two to go on the gnome’s page. A dedication, a memory, whatever you like. It sits quietly under the gnome’s story.

Then I give it away, the same as all the others. You don’t get the gnome. You don’t choose where it goes or who finds it. Whoever picks it up gets it for nothing and owes nobody anything, which is the whole point.

What you do get is to watch. When somebody finds it and sends a photo, it shows up on the gnome’s page. I should say plainly that photos may never come. Some gnomes are never heard from again. That is part of it, and I think it is a good part.

Carving takes a few weeks, and longer in winter.
